DIY Farmhouse Stocking Hanger

This quick and easy DIY Farmhouse Stocking Hanger is seriously the easiest project! I’m excited to show you guys how to make it!

I don’t have a mantle, so for years I’ve been stumped about where to put our stockings. I have put them on our Christmas Tree Shelf before, but most years, we end up taping them on the wall, which isn’t the prettiest option. So this year I knew I wanted to come up with a quick and easy solution that would be functional and pretty! And I came up with this DIY Farmhouse Stocking Hanger. Here is the quick tutorial for how to make your own DIY stocking hanger

Supplies

1- 30″ 1×8 pine board
2- 30″ 1×2 pine boards
2- 8 1/2″ 1×2 pine boards
Stain or paint – I used this from Amazon
Farmhouse Hooks – these are a good deal on Amazon
Brad Nailer and Brad Nails – this is my favorite tool of all time
Drill or screwdriver

Instructions

Cut your wood to size.
Using your Brad Nailer, attach your frame to your 1×8 board.
Paint the entire thing. I used DecoArt’s color stain, because it is safe to use indoors and dries so much faster than regular stain. Note- if you want to paint the frame a different color than the back, you should paint all of your wood before attaching the frame.
Attach your farmhouse hooks. I used these farmhouse hooks from Amazon. They are a really great deal compared to buying at the craft store or the hardware store.
Hang on your wall- since this can be pretty heavy, I recommend screwing grabber screws through the 1×8 directly into studs- if you look closely on the photo below, you can see screws between my first two hooks and again between my last two hooks. It isn’t super pretty, but it is much more secure than using a picture hanger on the back.

The best part of this DIY farmhouse stocking hanger is that it can stay up all year long. When the stockings are put away, it can double as a coat rack!

And you can add as many hooks as you need to for your family. If you have 3 people in your family, you can do 3 hooks, or if you have a lot of members of your family, you can make the lumber longer, and add as many hooks as you have people. I think 30 inches is ideal for up to 5 hooks. If you need it longer, I would add 4 inches per hook, beyond 30″. So if you need 10 hooks, I would add an extra 16 inches, making the total 46 inches.
