How to Make a Round Wood Door Hanging
I’m so excited to show you how to make this cute round wood door hanging.
This Round Wood Door Hanging turned out so cute! It is the perfect addition to my front door!
I love changing out my door hanging for each different holiday, but I found myself feeling like I needed to make something new or come up with something super clever for each holiday. I do love making wreaths, and I have some cute ones, like my Floral Hoop Wreath, my cute Doily Wreath, or my all time favorite Crepe Paper Rose Wreath.
But I like the idea of being able to just change a bow for the different holidays and seasons, if I wanted to. That’s why I am in love with this new Round Wood Door Hanging. It’s so cute and kind of farmhouse-y. But super practical at the same time.
Supplies Needed for Wood Round Door Hanging
- Wood Round (mine is from Home Depot, but you can also find them at Michaels, or Amazon)
- Wood Stain (I just used watered down brown paint)
- Craft Paint and paintbrushes
- Painter’s tape
- Drill with 1/4″ drill bit
- 3 screw eye hooks
- Ribbon to make bow, or premade bows
- String to hang- I used jute (from The Home Depot or Amazon)
Steps to Make a Wood Round Door Hanging
How to make a round wood door hanging
- Stain wood round
Start with a wood round. I got mine from The Home Depot, but you can also find them at most craft stores, like Michaels, or Amazon. Stain the wood round. I didn’t want to stain inside my house, so I just watered down some brown paint and brushed that on, then wiped it off with a paper towel.
- Tape off the Middle Section
I used painter’s tape, and taped off a section in the middle of my wood round. Then I painted it white. Once it was painted, I pulled the painter’s tape off, while the paint was still wet.
If I were to do this craft again, I would put my design on the lower portion of my wood round instead of the middle, like I did here. My bows tend to cover up my “hello”, and that wouldn’t have happened if I would have painted it lower. - Paint Stripes
Once the white paint was dry, I taped off the edges and painted it black. You can really do any design you’d like. I just liked how simple and clean this looked. Pull the tape off while the paint is still wet to prevent the paint peeling. Let it dry.
- Paint a Word on your Board
I decided I wanted my sign to say “hello”, so I found a font online that I liked (this one is called hello honey), then I printed it out on my home printer.
I simply traced the words onto my wood round, then painted it with a paint brush.
You could also cut out vinyl, if you have a vinyl cutter. - Add Eye Hooks and Twine to Hang
You’ll need two eye hooks, with some twine in order to hang your wood sign on your door. I just drilled a simple pilot hole with my drill and a 1/4″ drill bit. If you don’t have a drill, or don’t want to mess with it, you can screw these in without a drill, it just takes some patience and muscle.
I drilled my holes at about 11:00 and 1:00 if you are looking at a clock. Then I screwed my eye hooks in.
You’ll also need a hook to hang your bow on, so I used some pliers and opened up one of the eye hooks. Then I predrilled, and screwed an eye hook into the top, center of the wood round. - Make Bow
You can either make a bow or get some bows, greenery, or whatever you want to put on your door hanging. I just found a bunch of ribbon I liked and twisted it all together to make a bow. Watch my youtube video for more on this.
- Hang and Enjoy!
Now your door hanger is all finished! You can hang it up and enjoy all year long. All you have to do is change out the bow for different holidays. Super simple and cute!
This turned out absolutely amazing and it really wasn’t very hard or expensive. Follow along with me for more fun projects like this.
How did you attach the bow to the screw eye hook ?
I don’t understand how you did the black stripes. It looks like they’re painted on top of the green tape??
Never mind! I just saw there’s a video
