How to Build a Farmhouse Coffee Table (with storage)- free building plans

This farmhouse coffee table opens up, so it’s a great storage solution for the living room. I’m excited to share my free building plans with you!

If you’ve been following along with me on Instagram (@thecreativemom), you know we’ve been building a new coffee table. I’ve shared sneak peaks on my Instagram account, and you guys have been loving this coffee table- almost as much as you love my new rug!

A few years ago I built a farmhouse coffee table, which was actually an IKEA hack.  I seriously loved that coffee table SO much, but I ended up giving it to my brother and his wife because they needed a coffee table, and I knew we needed a coffee table with more storage for our living room. So we partnered with BuildSomething.com to bring you the free building plans for this table, and I am so excited to show you guys what we came up with.

And when I say WE, I really mean HE. I gave my husband free reign on this project. I helped a little in the design process (those x’s were my idea), but this whole build was his baby, and I love what he came up with.  Didn’t it turn out SO cute, you guys!

The best part is that the table top opens up for extra storage. We keep some pillows, quilts, and games in here, and it is seriously amazing to have extra storage that you can hide away.

And it looks so good in my living room. I love it SO much! That darling rug is another new addition that I’m obsessed with. I got it on Amazon, if you can you believe it! It fits my space so perfectly and I am obsessed with my coffee table/ rug combination.

We added some X accents to the sides of the coffee table, and I think that might be my favorite part. They are purely decorative, though. So if X’s aren’t your thing, you can change it up however you want when you build this.

And now I’m going to show you like 400 more photos of my living room, because I finally feel like it’s how I want it. I just love the way it feels right now! And honestly, that’s why I do this- why I have this blog. I want to help you guys make your homes FEEL and LOOK the way you want it to.

I love building my own furniture because I can get exactly what I want for WAY less. This whole build cost about $100. It just takes a little work, which is SUPER rewarding. I love it when people compliment my furniture and ask where I got it. Then I get to tell them that we designed and BUILT the furniture on our own. It’s a great feeling.

This might just be my favorite shot of all. Look how awesome that kitchen looks! If you missed it, we updated our kitchen with new backsplash and countertops and I have never looked back- it looks SO amazing.

Thanks so much for following along, you guys! Here are the build details. And if you want to build some of my other furniture, you can find more below.
