Make Your Own T-shirt {Using Iron On Vinyl}

Expressions Vinyl was so awesome to send me some iron-on T-shirt vinyl to try out.

They have all sorts of colors, but I picked glow in the dark… who wouldn’t?

And especially with Halloween coming up, I knew my kiddos would love a spooky (or cute) t-shirt to wear.

I’ve already told you how much I love Expressions Vinyl. They are a great company, and their prices are very reasonable for vinyl. I’ve never tried t-shirt vinyl before, and I was REALLY happy with how it turned out. Like, send photos to everybody I know with the caption, “I made this… and it glows in the dark!” happy.

You can get this vinyl {here}, it’s only $2.99 for a 6×12 sheet, which would easily make 4 kids’ shirts. And, it ships WAY fast. I placed my order on Friday afternoon, and it was on my porch Monday morning. So you still have time to do this project before Halloween!

You cut this exactly like you would regular vinyl. Using your Cricut or Silhouette. Put the shiny side down on your mat.

The iron-on vinyl is a little different than regular sticky vinyl. The iron-on stuff isn’t sticky at all, but the shiny, plastic backing is what’s sticky. So when you’re cutting, you’ll want to cut through your vinyl (the dull side) and keep the thick, plastic backing (the shiny side) intact.

Make sure you cut it out backwards.

Peel off the negative space, and you’ll have your iron-on ready.

Place it on your t-shirt, with the shiny plastic up and the dull, iron-on side down.

Cover with a piece of fabric and iron it on really well.

Once it’s ironed on, peel the thick plastic backing off, and you’re done!

The vinyl is plain white normally. But glows green!

My kids love them. And they ESPECIALLY love them because they glow in the dark.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what in the world is on Benson’s shirt, that little emblem is actually Iron Man’s Arc Reactor. You know, that little glowing thing on his chest?

Yeah, I had to google it.

But this little boy knew what it was and it is really cool, because he likes to pretend he’s iron man, and he loves that he’s got his own Arc Reactor… And it even glows, just like Iron Man’s.
