Four Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Plasti Dip. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m so excited to share 4 Plasti Dip craft ideas with you guys today. Have you guys ever heard of Plasti Dip? This stuff is seriously SO amazing! I first heard of Plasti Dip when my brothers painted the emblems and grills on their cars- they wanted them to be matte black instead of chrome, so they painted them with black Plasti-Dip (apparently this is a thing). At first I thought they were dumb, because what if they messed up, or what if that affected their car’s resale value? But then they told me that Plasti-Dip peels off most surfaces once it’s dry, so if they ever decided to sell the car, they could just peel the paint off! I was seriously blown away!  Plasti Dip Craft Ideas And trust me, I tried it to see if it really peeled off, and it did! It didn’t even leave a bit of residue!  You may want to try in an inconspicuous area if you’re concerned about peelability. So when Plasti Dip asked me to try out their new Plasti Dip Craft line, I knew I wanted to try this stuff out, and you guys! It’s so cool! You can get yours at Amazon. I loved playing with it so much, I couldn’t just pick one project! So I came up with four different Plasti Dip craft ideas.  plasti dip craft ideas

DIY Painted Mason Jar

My 11 year old is obsessed with the Utah Jazz. Last year they came out with these really cool uniforms that were an ombre effect, from yellow on the top, to orange, and red on the bottom. So I thought it would be really fun to make him a little mason jar he could put on his desk that mimicked the Jazz Uniforms. Plus, Plasti Dip has a rubbery coating, so I thought this would be perfect so the mason jar wouldn’t slide all over the place.  Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Supplies

Start with a clean and dry mason jar and 3 colors of Plasti Dip Craft spray paint. You could do this with any color- pick your favorite sports team, or the color of your decor. Make sure to follow the instructions on the can as you are painting. Use the Plasti Dip in a well ventilated area, shake the can well before using, and make sure to let it dry as directed. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Paint Base Color

I started with my lightest color for base (yellow). This will be the color at the top of your jar. Paint the entire jar, including the rim, this color. Then let dry. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Paint Middle Color

Once your base color is dry, paint your middle color- orange in my case. Spray at a downward angle, being careful not to cover up the yellow. Let it dry

Paint Bottom Color

Once your other colors are dry, paint your bottom (darkest) color- red in my case. Spray at a downward angle, being careful not to cover up the yellow. Let it dry. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Touch Up

If you need to touch up any colors, go ahead and spray them again. But otherwise, you are all done! Utah Jazz inspired craft

Revamp an old water bottle

We always get free water bottles from parades and fairs. I hate when they have a company’s logo on them, so I came up with this fun way to revamp an old water bottle. Plus, my kids love how cool this water bottle feels now that it’s been painted with Plasti Dip. It’s rubberized and easy to grip. WARNING: Plasti Dip is not food safe. Items coated with Plasti Dip Craft should NEVER come in contact with consumable food or beverage or be placed in a dishwasher or microwave oven. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Supplies

You’ll need an old water bottle that’s been cleaned and dry, and your Plasti Dip. For this look, I used Black Plasti Dip and the Plasti Dip Pearlizer. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Spray Base Color

Make sure to follow the instructions on the can as you are painting. Use the Plasti Dip in a well ventilated area, shake the can well before using, and make sure to let it dry as directed.   Tape off the mouth of the bottle- you want to make sure your lid screws on ok. Then start painting your base color. I chose black for my base color. This will be the color at the top of your jar. Paint the entire jar this color. Then let dry. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Add Pearlizer

Once your base color is dry, turn the bottle upside down and spray the bottom with your pearlizer. Make sure you spray lighter as you go up, staying on the bottom half of the bottle. Let it dry Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Enjoy!

Update an old phone case- and make it non-slip!

My kids inherited my old cell phone, and it had a pretty ugly old case on it. But besides being ugly, it worked just fine and is super durable. So I decided to use Plasti Dip Craft to update my old phone case and since Plasti Dip is rubberized, it also gave it a nice non-slip finish, which is really important for kids.

Supplies

You’ll need an old phone case and Plasti Dip in whatever color you like ( I used Gulf Coast Blue from Amazon) and the Metalizer spray. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Prep

Remove the phone case from your phone. Wash and dry.  Make sure to follow the instructions on the can as you are painting. Use the Plasti Dip in a well ventilated area, shake the can well before using, and make sure to let it dry as directed.

Spray

Spray the phone case. Let dry, and spray with another coat, if you need extra coverage. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Metalize

This is totally optional, but I wanted to give our phone case a little extra umph. So once I painted it blue, I sprayed it with a light coat of the Metalizer spray.

Enjoy!

Make Non-Slip Scissors

The first thing I thought of when I got my hands on the Plasti Dip Craft line is to make everything color-coded and non-slip for my kids. I knew I wanted to spray their scissors so they could tell them apart, and so they’d be grippier and safer for them. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Supplies

You’ll need some scissors, painters tape, and Plasti Dip in whatever color you like ( I used Gator Green and Gulf Coast Blue from Amazon). Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Tape off Scissors

Use painter’s tape to tape off the metal part of the scissors. Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

Spray

Make sure to follow the instructions on the can as you are painting. Use the Plasti Dip in a well ventilated area, shake the can well before using, and make sure to let it dry as directed. Spray the Scissors. Let dry, and spray with another coat, if you need extra coverage.

Enjoy!

Yup, that was literally two steps! Ha! Can’t beat an easy project! Plasti Dip Craft Ideas

  1. Misleading. Not one of your tips shows ideas for Plasti DIP. It’s all the aerosol SPRAY (which I never heard of the spray until I found this site)
Looking for ideas to use up my dip.

    1. For the record, Sandy, as Natalie clearly and explicitly already stated not only once , but several times- Plasti-Dip is the overhead brand and also the name of the different products in their product line. I.e. “Plasti Dip Craft line”, which Again, Natalie had mentioned several times throughout the post. So, next time instead of making hasty remarks such as yours above, maybe try making sure you’ve actually completely read the information/writings/etc , and are able to fully comprehend the message, before you go and make assumptions and generalizing comments that are not at all true nor applicable to said information.

Natalie— thank you for being so generous with sharing your ideas and sources as well as for your time you took to write this post!! Great job, and always looking to your blog for the latest updates and most recent ideas to try out !! Thanks!!!!

  2. I had never heard about this, it’s so cool! Nice way to restore or change up old stuff! I especially like the water bottle, nice finish 🙂
