DIY Small Laundry Room Makeover

This DIY laundry room makeover is so great! I can’t wait to show you everything I did.

DIY Laundry Room Makeover

We recently updated our main laundry room and it has been so much more enjoyable to spend time doing laundry, so I knew I wanted to fix up my basement laundry room as well.

Our basement laundry room is just a standard, small laundry room, like so many people have in their homes. There wasn’t anything that made this laundry room stand out. It was plain, basic, and not very functional at all.

So I decided to take the time and do something about it.

I documented the entire process on my instagram, and saved it to a highlight, so if you want to see step by step process videos, click over to my instagram profile to check it out.

Board and Batten

The first thing I did was install a basic board and batten wall treatment 4 feet up the wall. For instructions on how to install board and batten, see my board and batten tutorial.

I used 1×3 preprimed MDF boards for the board and batten. The paint color is Behr Distant Thunder in a Satin finish.

Wallpaper

Once the board and batten was installed and painted, I installed peel and stick wallpaper. I used Centricity from Wall Pops, and was so thrilled with how easy it was to install and how great it looked.

Shelves

Once the board and batten and wallpaper were finished, I added a couple of shelves above my washer and dryer.

I used 10 inch forged steel shelf brackets from Crates and Pallet. They were a cinch to install, and they look so simple, yet add a huge visual impact in my room.

Then I added a 10 inch laminate shelf to my brackets, and used crates to keep all of my laundry supplies in.

Accessories

Using crates to hide the laundry supplies is perfect, because it not only is it really cute, but it is functional and stays organized.

I also added a couple of fun touches like some candles, a jar of powdered laundry detergent (with my homemade laundry detergent), a cute letterboard, and a wreath.

One of my favorite touches was the laundry room sign from Hobby Lobby.

  1. Thank you for the inspiration! How high is your laundry room ceiling? Also, did your walls have texture before you added the wallpaper?
