Tutorial

I love to let my kids color, cut, and glue all the time… But I do NOT love to have papers on my fridge. My little boy will bring art projects home from preschool or church and ask me to put them on the fridge. After I cringe a little, I’ll put it on the fridge for a few hours until he isn’t looking and then I’ll remove it.
I know. Mother of the year. Not.
So, since I hate breaking my 3 year old’s heart, and since he wants to show off his art projects, I came up with a spot just for him to hang whatever he wants to show off! And I made one for my baby too. She already scribbles, and who wouldn’t want to show that off!

Wanna make your own? Click “read more” to see how!

I got some wood from the Home Depot. I honestly have no idea what kind it is. Maybe Pine. Maybe not.
It came in boards 12 inches wide by 6 feet for $9. I just grabbed one of those and cut it 16 inches long.
If you don’t have a saw, ask the Home Depot guy, he’ll cut it for you.
Then I had my dad router it for me. The final dimensions ended up being 11 5/8″ x 16″. {Even though they say it’s 12″ wide, it’s not.}
Then I sanded, I mean should have sanded, and painted the wood.
I cut this vinyl with my cricut, which I love. And just stuck it right on the wood.
If you don’t have access to a Cricut or Sillouette, you could just print this out on paper and mod podge it on. Or find some sticky letters.
Here’s what they look like once I painted them and put my vinyl on.
Then I put a good layer of Mod Podge on. Cause I know my kids are going to try to peel off the vinyl. Maybe this will deter them a little.
Hot glue some ribbon on the back to hang it by.
I found these “bulldog” clips at Office Max. I couldn’t find any that weren’t magnetic. Doesn’t matter anyway.
Hot glue it right to the front. Or you could screw it in.
And there you have it, my friends. Quick and Easy!
Here are the jpg’s I used for my vinyl. If you have a Cricut or Sillouette, feel free to right click and “save as”. Then you can add your child’s name. Or print it out on your printer.
These are 11.3215 by 16 inches. FYI.
Good Luck!!! Let me know if you actually do this, I would love to see pictures!
The entire project took about 20 minutes, plus drying time.
Total cost: $12.50 for BOTH!!!
$9 for wood {Plus I have extra for later!}
$3.50 for Bulldog clips
Had the vinyl and ribbon
If you really want to do this project, and want some vinyl, I will customize it with your child’s name and send you the vinyl for $10 each.

    Awesome idea! I love it and will probably end up doing this for my two too! Quick question, what do you use to transfer your vinyl? I have a cricut and have been trying to use contact paper, but it sticks too well and I can never get the contact paper to transfer!
    Thanks!

    Cute idea. I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how you get the image to cut on your Cricut. . .do you use a program like Sure Cuts a Lot?

    Natalie those are darling! I would love to make that for my kids. I am so on the same page as you. My kids get so mad at me when I look at a paper, say good job, and then throw it away. I don't know if I can do this but you make it look easy. This is such a cute blog.
